Over 95% of the plastic we buy we throw away within a year and this is where the real problems start. Plastic hangs around for a very long time - no one is sure how long, but current estimates are that it will take at least 1000 years to biodegrade.
Most of it ends up in landfill, where it takes up valuable space, ruins the landscape and often releases dangerous toxins.
